The Global Challenge
As a renowned global architecture firm, data continues to grow exponentially as applications become more complex and demanding in terms of storage performance and growth requirements. "Our team of architects have to work very closely together," states the customer's Head of IT. This means many engineering projects "follow the sun" as partners and staff collaborate in real-time on large scale design files across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the United States.
For a business that relies massively on a combination of structured and unstructured data for multi-site collaboration between global branch offices, a solution was needed that would enable teams to share large Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) projects and files in real-time and without any latency or delays. For the Head of IT, this presented a big problem, "Sometimes up to 300 architects at any one time could be collaborating in real-time on a detailed project, and working with very large sets of drawings and plans. For us this is a huge challenge because the data could actually be 8,000 miles away, but our team needs to be able to access the file as if it's sitting on the local network."
